With their generous scrolls and central anthemion embellishment, they are reminiscent of the great ionic Erechtheum (also Erechtheion) capitals that once stood in the ancient Greek temple of the same name in Athens.
Different in height, each antique column is a half round, classically carved with fluting to create a matching graduated pair. Both pedestals have a cream stone colour typical of the Portland variety, with grey-brown weathering in places that only adds to their unique beauty. Suitable for use indoors and out, they could be used together as interior plinths to display a pair of busts, statues, vases or similar, or placed outside in a garden as a neoclassical feature.
We are also selling other sets of limestone column pedestals in a similar style; please enquire for details.
