This lovely piece of furniture is conceived in the Italian baroque style and is executed entirely in walnut which has attained a fantastic colour and surface. The large top overhanging a moulded cornice. The front of the piece consists of a series of six drawers above two cupboard doors and both drawer and door fronts are adorned with intriguing “spider’s web” type carving, which is carved from the solid rather than made separately and then applied to the carcass. Designs of this sort are associated with the top workshops in the Piedmont region during this period. The piece also features panelling, rope carving in between the drawers and doors, and on the uprights, with variety of decorative mouldings, particularly on the upper and lower friezes. The combination of panelling and carved decorative tiles is also used on the sides. An exceptional example of this quality could only have been produced for a patron with the funds to match.
Pieces of this quality are hard to find and we are delighted to be able to offer this interesting cabinet.
