Originally part of a larger, carved presentation from Flanders (circa 1800), this pair of oak soldiers have been mounted to a two and a half tall block with a dark finish. The patina of the soldiers is a combination of brown and tan, making the details of the carvings stand out.
Both soldiers are presented with plumed headgear. The figure on the left is a bust and facing towards his taller counterpart. He is wearing a hooded cloak with horizontal stitching across the chest. The other soldier is a half body representation who is looking roughly straight ahead. He has a sword on his left hip, next to crenellated pteruges. A cloak is pinned on both shoulders above his armor as he holds a spear in his right hand. Our mounted carved oak soldiers would make a wonderful decorative accessory for a mantel or small table.

Condition:GoodAdditions or alterations made to the original: The oak block that comprises the base is not original to the carvings, which were most likely originally part of a larger installation. Wear consistent with age and use. Good antique condition. Fleabites and light buildup to soldiers. Originally part of larger installation, the figures have been mounted to a stand, with minor nicks and losses. The soldiers have developed a lovely deep brown patina.
