The plate is finely potted with a carefully cut base rim and a lovely rich glassy, white glaze with a light blue tinge.
The plate is carefully hand decorated in a free flowing style, characteristic of the period, in varying shades of a clear cobalt blue, iron red and gold. The central well is decorated in the Kakiemon ( Japanese) style with a flowering hawthorn or cherry branch emanating from rocks, all within a blue circle at the outer rim. There are also two different Imari 8-sector wheels near the rocks at the base area. The reverse has two floral branches in cobalt blue with berries or flowers in red.
The base is unmarked.
The well balanced fairly sparsely decorated design in the Kakiemon style points to this plate possibly being produced for export to the Japanese market.
We date this piece to circa 1700 and within the Kangxi period range of 1622-1722.
