A stately Italian four-drawer carved wood chest with putto and foliage accents from the 18th century. This antique commode from Italy features a pair of side posts which are beautifully carved with a putto and leaf motif, which flank the four nicely-sized, dove-tailed drawers. Each drawer has three carved plaque style embellishments set horizontally across their fronts, while a carved string of garland is found on the case, adding visual separation between each drawer. Acanthus leaf carved trim outlines the front just beneath the top lip, and is repeated just above the skirt at bottom. The chest is presented on bracket style feet with carved leaves spraying under the skirt at each front side. The rich wood tone has a lovely old patina; a reflection of the history and age of this piece. There is plentiful storage in this good-sized chest and top drawer offers dividers to help with organization. This 18th century Italian commode is a magnificent piece of furniture!
