17th-18th century Louis XIV period French fireback with a Saint Andrew’s cross and two pillars of Hercules. Saint Andrew is said to have been martyred on a cross in this shape. As a result the cross became a sign for humility and sacrifice. The pillars of Hercules symbolize strength and the unknown. They stand for the club of Hercules.
The style of the fireback is Louis XIV and it is from that period. The patina of the fireback is brown. Upon request it can be made black / pewter at no extra cost. The condition is good, no cracks.
