This rare and stunning Tiffany and Co. 19th Century Sterling Silver and Gold Washed Serving Spoon in Olympian Pattern originates from the United States in 1878. Features a gold washed rounded rectangular scoop, with an illustrious and highly detailed handle in the “Olympian Pattern”. This pattern is exquisitely designed and executed with precision that tests the very limits of the naked eye in discerning both the visual and narrative detail throughout the landscape, figures, and organic detailing. The front of the spoon’s handle when viewed horizontally depicts a pastoral landscape of Greek Deities gathered around a figure playing a lyre, an ancient greek stringed instrument very similar to modern harps. In Greek mythology the Lyre at the center of the narrative scene and whose music is drawing in and captivating the surrounding figures was originally created by the God Hermes, then given to Apollo, then given to Orpheus. Orpheus, a hero and son of a muse is heralded as an incredible musician and poet, that could make the very world sway with his music, alluring Gods, Mortals, and even rocks alike. This stunning and intimate forrest scene has a multiplicity of mythological figures with additional narrative gems and incredible attention to detail.
