These huge urns, cast in France from crushed stones and cement measure an astounding 63 inches tall. They are nearly the same dimension as the original “Vase du Printemps” from which they are based upon. The vase was part of a set of four designed for Château de Choisy in the 1740s. However, none of the vases were ever sent to Choisy. Some were passed about to other Chateaux and museums, including the MET in New York. The vase on which ours was based splits it’s time between Le Louvre Museum in Paris and Château Malmaison.
These vases at 5 feet 3 inches high and will make a striking visual impression in any garden or park setting. They are finished in an elegant, creamy limestone color, not too dissimilar from the present day color of the marble of the originals. They are decorated with rams heads at each side, thick garlands of roses, and delicate female mascarons. Approximate weight: 1,800 lbs each.
