A wonderful Nepalese wood-carved deity sculpture of the Hindu God Vishnu – the god of preservation and the protector and restorer of dharma
This architectural ornament piece is hand-carved from a single piece of wood and likely came from a Hindu temple in the late 17th/early 18th century. It has a dark, rich patina that comes with age.
From a Los Angeles collection of Indian and Southeast Asian artifacts and looks to have been part of The University of Texas exhibition program (per the tags on the base).
Would be a great addition to any Asian folk art, sculptures/carvings, or artifacts collection or an eye-catching accent piece in about any setting.
