Striking black lacquer bajô jingasa (horseback samurai hat) with a slightly upward-bent visor and distinctively shaped bowl.
The front embellished with a matt black lacquer design of a crest depicting a chrysanthemum flower (kiku) rising from a meandering river, flanked by a pair of fierce flying dragons (ryû).
Fitted on top by a patinated copper knob shaped like tiered chrysanthemum flower, and on the back a matching cord ring.
The inside coated with red lacquer and equipped with leather hoops.
Jingasa (“war hat”): a type of hat commonly worn by samurai and ashigaru (foot soldiers).
