From the Dordogne region of France, this early nineteenth century walnut buffet features marquetry detailing of an urn with flowers on the lower apron and inset borders in a twisted ribbon pattern below the top. With hand pegged paneled sides, this piece is fitted with a single drawer of dovetail construction flanked by false drawer fronts in marquetry. Its two doors are mounted with iron escutcheons and swing open on fiche hinges to reveal an interior with a single shelf. A half column on one of the doors divides the piece symmetrically when the doors are closed. The cabinet rests on classic Louis XV style cabriolet legs. Includes two keys with functioning locks. c. 1800.
