The plate is of large dinner plate size with a 10 inch diameter. It is finely potted with a carefully cut base rim and a lovely rich glassy, white glaze with a light blue tinge.
The whole plate is carefully and finely hand decorated in a free flowing style, characteristic of the period, in varying shades of a clear cobalt blue, iron red, salmon and gold.
The central well is decorated with an urn or pot holding flowers with a table to the side holding scrolls, with further precious things, other symbols and further flowers. The cavetto and outer rim has further intricate hand painted scenes in a four section pattern with two miniature scenes of houses, rocks and trees alternating with four scenes of vases, bowls & boxes with other precious things.
What makes this plate special is the very high quality of the hand decoration combined with the lack of damage.
The base rim of the plate has two floral sprigs hand painted in underglaze blue and with red flower buds or berries.
We date this piece to circa 1700 and within the Kangxi period range of 1622-1722.
In summary, a very beautiful Chinese porcelain Kangxi period Plate in remarkable condition for about 320 years old.
