An elegant, turn-of-the-19th century, hand-carved, fully finished polychrome and parcel gilt statue of a Chinese wise man with a cascading braid beneath a a grand, bamboo hat capped by a foliate finial. He grasps both a scroll and a plumed fan. The figure in pale blush, and sea-foam robe and trousers. Acquired from a private collection, Venice, Italy.
