A 19th century Chinese Inkstone. The upper part decorated with floral lotus motives serving as water basin.
The Inkstone was one of the four principal elements in the Chinese scholar’s study (ink stick, paper and brush). When practicing calligraphy the ink (in solid form) was dispersed on the stone and then mixed with water.
